NOBOLIS Breeding Goal: Our objective in Breeding and Training Dobermans is to produce a better generation than the previous one and proving it. Our focus is to breed the complete Doberman - multi- functional, alert and noble in appearance. Extensive health tests are performed on all members in our breeding program. Testing includes: Thyroid, OFA (hips), vWD, CERF (eyes), and Heart. Temperament is tested and observed to generate excellent pets as well as functional dogs . All our dogs and pups are tested for tracking ability, focus, intensity and courage. Along with Health and Temperament we also look for confirmation to the CKC/AKC Doberman Pinscher standard. Due to the high standards for breeding Nobolis pups, our litters are few. Although we validate our dogs health, temperament, confirmation and working ability before breeding, it is difficult to locate other breeders with the same standards and testing. Most breeders will perform health tests. Some breeders compete in the confirmation ring for Championship titles. There is a select group who breed working Dobermans and compete in one or two working disciplines. Some breeders attain TT certificates by completing a Temperament Test provided by local Dog clubs. The UDC has the best Temperament Test specifically designed for the Doberman Pinscher breed. Our challenge is to find a breeder who can prove their dog in all disciplines and still be a perfect family pet. The dogs in our Breeding program have worked in various disciplines including: Confirmation, Obedience, Agility, Herding, Shutzhund, Tracking, Carting and Free Style Dance. Each dog competes in several disciplines to prove their versatility. All health tests are performed and health history is tracked through generations. All pups that have been placed for adoption are monitored for health and temperament. Pups are occasionally retested through their life to verify their working ability and temperament. We investigate breed lines to avoid aggression in our dogs. With a Nobolis pup, adopters will have a good looking Doberman with functionality. For pet owners, they may not use the dog for competition but they know their Doberman's potential if they require it. See 2003 Litter where two pups have already proven their worth - one with tracking a lost child, another with protecting his home and family. Our Athena successful tracked a missing child while visiting Ottawa. From our 2006 litter one pup has her registered "Assistance Dog" certification. Adoptions: All litters are planned and reservations are obtained prior to breeding. This practice ensures all Nobolis pups are sold only to homes where they will obtain the best quality of life. Pups are adopted and cannot be resold or re-homed; if issues arise the pups are contracted to come back to Nobolis to allow us to re-habilitate and train the puppy or dog and to find a better home. These dogs have a life span of approximately 13 years, this is the commitment we expect the new owners to accept. All families adopting a pup are required to participate with their pup in at least one 6 wks publicly offered obedience course before the pup turns 1 year old. This allows the owner and the pup to bond while providing an excellent socialization environment for the pup. All owners are required to socialize their pup as much as possible during the first year of their life. This will instill courage in the dog for later years and possibly prevent fear biting behavior. All adopters will become an ambassador to the breed and need to present a well socialized and trained dog to the public. Our efforts are to educate the public and protect the Doberman from future Breed Bans. All pups will have tails docked, dew claws removed, ears cropped, micro chipped and health certificate prior to adoption (ref: Functionality vs Appearance at 'Did you Know'). Non-breeding contracts are mandatory unless special conditions are agreed to. Nobolis will tape ears, trim nails and will teach adopters to perform these tasks. All pups will be tested for temperament, courage, scenting, tracking, focus, intensity and recovery at seven weeks old and periodically thru their life when possible. The results will be available to adopters with an explanation of each rating when selecting their pup. Nobolis is always available to owners for advice and training. We keep in touch with all our litters to monitor quality, health and working ability. We also monitor owners to ensure the pups are well taken care of. If we confirm a pup is not treated properly or is in a dangerous situation, we will work to rescue that puppy. Our mission is to ensure a Nobolis pup never ends up at an animal shelter, animal rescue or puppy mill. At Nobolis "it's about the dog". We care for our dogs and the pups we place. We hope the enjoyment our 'Dober kids' have given us will repeat itself with the adoptions we provide. Loyalty is a two way street, Dobermans are among the most loyal of dogs, adopters owe it to this intelligent and emotional breed to give it back.
